Al-Salmiya Club has signed Greek coach Antonios Doukas to lead the senior men’s basketball team in upcoming competitions, most notably the Arab Basketball Championship, which will be held in Beirut, Lebanon, from October 9 to 20 next year. The Greek coach boasts an impressive resume, having previously managed the Albanian national team on two occasions and led several European clubs, including Albanian side Tirana and Swiss club Star Wings. He also has Gulf experience, having coached the Iraqi Electricity Club. Doukas, 54, aims to guide Al-Salmiya to a high finish in the Arab Championship, marking the club’s debut in the tournament. Al-Salmiya has bolstered its roster with three foreign players: the towering Russian Alexander (2.20 meters), and Americans Rico Johnson and Quary Clibert. The club has also added local players Hamad Al-Ali, on loan from Kazma, and former Kuwait international Abdulrahman Al-Jumaa. Ayman Al-Anzi, head of Al-Salmiya’s delegation at the championship and team manager, said participation in the Arab tournament is a golden opportunity for the club to etch its name in the competition’s history, adding that the team will strive to deliver top performances and secure high placements. Al-Anzi expressed his deepest gratitude to the Basketball Federation for its support and backing, and to the Al-Salmiya Club’s board of directors for providing all the team’s needs and removing every obstacle to ensure a distinguished appearance for Kuwaiti basketball.
