The Permanent Mission of Kuwait to the United Nations in Geneva reiterated its strong condemnation and rejection of the repeated attacks carried out by Houthi militias on civilian targets and civilians in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as the attempt to target Mecca with a drone. This was stated in a speech delivered by Counselor Bashar Al-Muwaisri before the United Nations Human Rights Council during its 63rd session in Geneva, in which he emphasized that these attacks constitute a blatant violation of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and a breach of international law and international humanitarian law. He described the act as “cowardly and despicable,” asserting that it constitutes an affront to the sanctity of the Qibla of Muslims, a disregard for its religious significance, and an infringement on the feelings of Muslims. He warned that the region is witnessing rapid political and military escalation, as well as growing tensions that directly affect regional security and the safety of maritime navigation. Al-Muwaisri reiterated Kuwait’s emphasis on the importance of political dialogue and diplomatic solutions as fundamental pillars for resolving international disputes and achieving sustainable stability among states, while stressing the necessity of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and adhering to the principles of international law and the UN Charter. He called for avoiding any steps that could heighten tensions or expose the region’s security and stability to further risks. In the same context, Al-Muwaisri also affirmed, during the Council’s general debate, the importance of addressing human rights issues within the framework of constructive dialogue and cooperation, free from politicization and selectivity, so as to contribute to building trust and addressing challenges in a practical and effective manner.
