The U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Kuwait, Steve Butler, affirmed that Kuwaiti-U.S. relations span 65 years, noting that the United States was present to extend congratulations on this occasion, which embodies a long history of friendship and partnership between the two countries. In a speech marking the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kuwait and the United States, Butler stated that communication between the two countries began prior to the formal establishment of diplomatic ties, pointing out that the United States established a diplomatic presence in Kuwait in 1951 by opening its consulate, which later became an embassy, while diplomatic relations were officially established in September 1961. He added, “After 65 years, since Dayton S. Mack assumed the role of the first Chargé d’Affaires at our embassy, it is an honor for me to hold the same position and contribute to writing a new chapter in the story of our partnership and history.” He clarified that Kuwaiti-U.S. relations are “a friendship forged in times of conflict and strengthened by cooperation across generations of Americans and Kuwaitis,” who have helped build strong ties between the two countries through thick and thin. He emphasized that the two countries continue to work together to build on this shared history and look toward a more cooperative and collaborative future. Butler concluded, “Today we celebrate the 65th anniversary of our friendship, and we look to the future as we always have, side by side. May our friendship with Kuwait grow stronger each year.”
