Italian coach Enzo Maresca of English club Manchester City told Britain’s Sky Sports network after his side’s 5-3 victory over Sunderland on Monday: “Sunderland is a very good team. They are strong and dangerous, but we found a way to win the match again.” When asked about the entertainment value of the game, he replied: “Not for us! I said in the pre-match press conference that I expected a very difficult match. Then we conceded two, or even three, goals. But again, we have learned a lot over these past eight weeks, and that is a good thing.” Asked how much he has learned in his first weeks as City’s manager, he said: “As a coach, you are always trying to learn, whether you win, lose or draw. You review the match and see what you could have done better. I think today there were many things we could have done better, but all of that is part of the learning process.” On the high number of goals in the match, he added: “Too many goals. I prefer a 1-0 win; that is much better.”
