Riyadh, KUNA: Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jassem Al-Budaiwi affirmed yesterday that the GCC’s active presence at international forums and the continuous growth of the Council’s relations with countries, regional and international groups and organizations reflect the advanced standing of GCC member states on the global stage and their strategic partnerships. The Council’s General Secretariat said in a statement that this came in a remark by Al-Budaiwi on the occasion of the meeting of the GCC Coordinating Ministerial Council, chaired by Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani, who holds the current GCC chairmanship, and attended by the foreign ministers of the GCC states. The meeting was held on Sunday on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, United States.

The GCC Secretary-General said the meeting comes within the framework of continuous coordination and consultation among Gulf states on various issues and topics of common interest, thereby enhancing the unity of the GCC position and consolidating joint action by the Council’s member states at regional and international forums. He clarified that during the meeting, the joint ministerial meetings scheduled by the GCC with a number of countries, regional and international groups and organizations on the sidelines of the 81st UNGA session were reviewed and discussed, alongside coordination on the topics and issues on their agendas, in order to enhance common interests and advance cooperation and partnership toward broader horizons.

Al-Budaiwi pointed out that the joint ministerial meetings held by the GCC on the sidelines of the UNGA sessions embody the mutual interest of the Council and its international and regional partners in developing relations, based on the pivotal role of Gulf states and their growing standing in supporting security, stability and development, and enhancing opportunities for dialogue and cooperation at both the regional and international levels. He also affirmed that GCC member states are continuing to strengthen their regional and international relations and build effective and sustainable partnerships based on mutual respect and common interests, contributing to consolidating security, stability, peace and development regionally and internationally, while also reflecting the unified positions of the Council’s member states on regional and international issues.

It is worth noting that Foreign Minister Sheikh Jara Al-Jaber participated on Sunday in the Coordinating Meeting of the foreign ministers of the GCC states, held on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
