Mays Kammar: The stage is my first love and the father of the arts

Artist Mais Kammar expressed her immense joy and pride in participating in the Dhofar International Theater Festival, praising the festival’s excellent organization and professional management, as well as its warm hospitality and its ability to attract a select group of leading Arab artists. In media statements made on the sidelines of the festival, Kammar emphasized her great pride in being in the Sultanate of Oman, specifically in the city of Salalah, highlighting the positive relationships and previous artistic experiences she has shared with the Omani audience, particularly her participation in earlier theatrical productions in Salalah alongside the distinguished artist Tariq Al-Ali.

Reflecting on her artistic career spanning more than 36 years, Kammar explained that her stage debut occurred at the age of thirteen. Her experiences have ranged from academic tragic theater to popular theater, in addition to her television appearances. She added that she has always strived to maintain a balance between television and stage work, while stressing that the theater remains her “first and eternal passion.”

Regarding the differences between stage and television acting, Kammar noted that stage actors possess exceptional tools and capabilities that enable them to excel across various artistic forms. She described the theater as the “father of the arts” and the most challenging of all artistic disciplines, given the unique presence, stage presence, and talent required to interact directly with the audience.

Kammar concluded her remarks by expressing her respect and appreciation for all her fellow artists in both the theatrical and television spheres, while expressing her hope for the continuation of such cultural events that enrich the theatrical and artistic scene in the Arab world.
