Qatar is launching investment projects and opportunities worth more than $60 billion over the next five years, distributed between state-led infrastructure and private investments in real estate and hospitality. This comes as the country has launched a new platform to manage and develop the local portfolio of the Qatar Investment Authority, as part of its efforts to expand the role of the private sector and attract international capital and expertise.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, said in a speech at the Qatar Economic Forum held in New York that his country expects to award new infrastructure projects worth approximately $38.5 billion over the next five years. These projects will include public-private partnership initiatives, with the first tenders to be launched immediately.

Meanwhile, Qatar’s Ministry of Finance announced the issuance of international dollar-denominated bonds with five- and ten-year maturities, as part of its efforts to diversify funding sources and manage its financing needs through global debt markets. According to the initial pricing, the five-year tranche was set at 85 basis points above the yield on U.S. Treasury bonds, equivalent to a yield of approximately 5.67%. The ten-year tranche was priced at 95 basis points above U.S. Treasury bonds, corresponding to a yield of around 5.91%.

The final pricing of the bonds is expected to be announced later today, subject to market conditions and investor demand, with the issue to be listed on the London Stock Exchange.
