Gulf and UN condemnation of Houthi terrorist attacks: They threaten the security and stability of the region
United Nations – Agencies: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jassim Mohamed Al-Budaiwi condemned the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and the targeting of civilian infrastructure, warning of their serious implications for regional security and stability.
The statements were made during a meeting between Guterres and Al-Budaiwi in New York, on the sidelines of the GCC Secretary-General’s participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
GCC Secretary-General Jassim Al-Budaiwi strongly condemned the continued attacks by the terrorist Houthi militia on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, most recently the launch of a ballistic missile toward the city of Riyadh, as well as the targeting of several other cities within the Kingdom.
In a statement, Al-Budaiwi said that the persistent and futile attempts by the terrorist Houthi militia to target civilians and infrastructure in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reveal its aggressive and treacherous approach and call for a firm international stance to deter these unacceptable attacks.
He reaffirmed the GCC and its member states’ unified stand alongside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and their full support for all measures it takes to protect its security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, emphasizing that any targeting of the Kingdom constitutes a threat to regional security and stability.
The two sides discussed the latest regional developments and the efforts being made to address them, as well as the cooperation between the GCC and the United Nations and ways to enhance it.
During the meeting, Guterres praised the development, progress, and prosperity achieved by the GCC member states, as well as their regional and international efforts to promote security and stability.
This GCC-UN stance comes after the UN Security Council condemned the ongoing Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, including strikes that have caused damage to civilians and energy infrastructure, resulting in injuries among civilians, including women and children.
