4 Habits That Accelerate Signs of Aging in Women

Aging may not be solely linked to chronological age, but also to daily habits that seem simple and natural yet can, over time, affect the body’s health and its ability to maintain strength and vitality. Robin Berezin, Chief Executive Officer of Parsley Health, told the U.S. newspaper The New York Post that women in their 30s and 40s possess a crucial advantage that cannot be recovered later: time. Early healthy habits can help preserve muscle, bone, heart, and metabolic health for many years. Below are the most common mistakes that may accelerate signs of aging in women without their realizing it:

Sitting all day. Regular exercise is important, but it does not mean that sitting for the rest of the day has no impact. Many people spend between eight and 10 hours a day sitting, which may be associated with increased risks of heart problems, elevated blood sugar and cholesterol levels, and weight gain. A study of older women found that sitting for more than 11 hours a day was linked to a higher risk of premature death compared with shorter periods of sitting. Berezin says the solution does not require intense exercise all day long; instead, movement can be incorporated into daily routines by walking after meals, using the stairs instead of the elevator, and standing regularly.

Consuming too little protein. Berezin advises women to stop focusing on the number on the scale and instead start thinking about building muscle. She explains, “In midlife, the goal should gradually shift from losing weight at all costs to preserving lean muscle mass.” She notes that eating less while spending long periods on a treadmill may work against this goal.

Not knowing your body’s key health indicators. One mistake that may be made unintentionally is failing to monitor key health indicators until a problem arises. These indicators include blood pressure, blood sugar levels and how the body processes them, iron stores, cholesterol, body fat and muscle percentages, and blood lipids. Knowing these indicators at an early age helps establish a baseline of overall health, allowing for the tracking of any changes that occur over the years. Some health conditions may begin to develop before clear symptoms appear.

Waiting for symptoms to appear before taking care of your health. One of the biggest health mistakes is delaying attention to the body until clear symptoms emerge or a disease is diagnosed. Many chronic diseases can develop over years without noticeable symptoms. Therefore, prevention does not mean buying the latest products or supplements that promise to slow aging; rather, it begins with fundamental steps such as regular movement, maintaining muscle and bone health, monitoring health indicators, and caring for heart and metabolic health.
