Al-Jalal: More Integrated and Impactful Initiatives and Programs
Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Dr. Nader Al-Jalal participated in the 26th meeting of the Committee of Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, held in Manama, the capital of Bahrain. The meeting aimed to discuss priority files and adopt decisions and recommendations targeting the development of Gulf cooperation in higher education and scientific research.
Minister Al-Jalal affirmed that the upcoming phase of joint Gulf work in higher education and scientific research requires a shift toward more integrated and impactful initiatives and programs, leveraging the capabilities and experiences available in GCC member states, particularly in scientific research, quality assurance, academic publishing, and partnerships with the private sector. He explained that strengthening cooperation in these areas would contribute to enhancing the quality of outputs from higher education institutions and keeping pace with future changes and the developmental and economic needs of GCC member states.
Shared Initiatives
Al-Jalal emphasized Kuwait’s commitment to continuing its support for the advancement of Gulf cooperation in higher education and scientific research, elevating it from mere exchange of experiences to building shared initiatives that deliver added value to students, researchers, and academic institutions. He highlighted the importance of these efforts in developing educational and research systems and strengthening the presence of Gulf universities and research institutions in knowledge and innovation fields.
In conclusion, Al-Jalal expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the sister Kingdom of Bahrain, the current GCC presidency, for their excellent hospitality and organization. He also commended the efforts of the GCC General Secretariat in supporting the joint Gulf work and enhancing coordination among GCC member states in higher education and scientific research.
The meeting addressed several shared initiatives and files, most notably the executive regulations for research chairs in Kuwaiti universities and higher education institutions, the preparation of a unified Gulf framework for classifying Arabic-language publishing databases, strengthening partnerships between higher education institutions and the private sector, and the Gulf reference standards for academic accreditation.
