Tajik Ambassador: Kuwait holds a special and cherished place in our foreign policy
The Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in Kuwait hosted an evening event two days ago at the Crowne Plaza hotel to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Tajikistan. The event was attended by Minister of Public Works Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan, a number of ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions and international organizations, as well as members of the Tajik community and friends of Tajikistan in Kuwait.
In a speech delivered to the attendees, Tajikistan’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Khosrow Nazari, emphasized that his country was not merely commemorating a historical date, but rather reflecting on a 35-year journey of state-building, while looking to the future with confidence, determination, and hope. He noted that Tajikistan is currently advancing on a path of development with a clear vision, prioritizing accelerated industrialization, energy independence, food security, the development of transport infrastructure, the promotion of digital transformation and innovation, and the enhancement of green development.
Ambassador Nazari stated that while his country has faced serious challenges during its journey, the will of the people, their commitment to national unity, and strong leadership have enabled Tajikistan to overcome difficulties and move forward steadily, adding that the country now enjoys peace and stability.
Regarding Kuwait’s status, the ambassador highlighted that the State of Kuwait holds a “special and cherished place” in the foreign policy of the Republic of Tajikistan. He clarified that diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on March 31, 1995, and just a few weeks later, President Emomali Rahmon paid his first official visit to Kuwait, which marked the first visit by a Tajik president to an Arab state. He affirmed that the relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries have developed steadily, based on mutual respect, political dialogue, trust, and mutually beneficial partnership.
He pointed out that the recent official visit by President Emomali Rahmon to Kuwait in November 2024, and his meetings with His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, constituted a landmark in the trajectory of bilateral relations, providing strong momentum to cooperation and opening new horizons for partnership in various fields.
Emphasizing that the next phase requires translating the strong political understanding between the two countries into broader and more effective practical and economic cooperation, Ambassador Nazari noted that Kuwait and Tajikistan have promising opportunities in trade, investment, infrastructure, agriculture, energy, tourism, and other priority sectors. He expressed his country’s anticipation for holding the fifth meeting of the Joint Governmental Commission for Economic, Trade, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation in Dushanbe, which would contribute to opening new avenues for cooperation and enhancing direct communication between business circles, turning available opportunities into tangible projects and results benefiting both countries and peoples.
The ambassador praised the cooperation with the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and its significant contributions to supporting development projects in Tajikistan, describing this collaboration as a sincere model of developmental solidarity and an embodiment of Kuwait’s approach to supporting development in other countries.
He also appreciated the opening of the Kuwaiti Embassy in Dushanbe and the commencement of duties by a Kuwaiti ambassador resident in Tajikistan, considering this a significant step reflecting deep mutual trust and a shared will to enhance convergence between the two peoples.
Affirming that relations between states are not built on agreements and projects alone, but also on human and cultural ties between peoples, he pointed to the depth of cultural and spiritual bonds uniting Tajikistan and Kuwait, as well as the enduring connections between the Tajik people and the Arab world spanning centuries. He highlighted the importance of cultural exchange, tourism, education, and direct communication between the two peoples, noting the organization of alternating Tajik and Kuwaiti Culture Days in the capitals of both countries as an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of each other’s heritage, arts, and traditions.
He also regarded the direct flight route between Kuwait and Dushanbe, operated by Jazeera Airways, as an important bridge between the two peoples, contributing to the revitalization of tourism, business, investment, and cultural exchange, expressing his hope for the continued development of the route and enhanced air connectivity between the two countries.
Concluding his speech, Ambassador Nazari affirmed that the 35 years of independence have endowed the Tajik people with a rich legacy of peace, national unity, resilience, perseverance, state-building, and development, as well as the ability to combine authenticity with modernity. He stated, “The greatest achievement lies not only in what has been accomplished, but also in the confidence in the future.” He emphasized that Tajikistan is entering a new phase of its developmental journey with a clear vision and renewed determination, striving to build a strong, modern, and prosperous state, a competitive economy, and a society characterized by peace and unity that provides a decent life and a better future for every citizen. He reaffirmed his country’s continued work with the State of Kuwait, friendly nations, and international partners for the sake of peace, stability, sustainable development, and shared prosperity.
