Yemen Mobilizes Arab and International Support to Protect the Bab el-Mandeb

Capital cities – Agencies: The Yemeni government has intensified its Arab and international communications to rally support in the face of the Houthi military escalation in the western part of the country. Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Afrah al-Zoubi affirmed that safeguarding the Bab al-Mandab strait represents a shared interest for the region and the world.

According to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), al-Zoubi held discussions with officials and diplomats from Bahrain, Morocco, Britain, the United States, and Russia, addressing developments in Yemen and the repercussions of the Houthi escalation on regional security and international navigation.

The agency reported that on Friday, al-Zoubi discussed the situation in Yemen during a telephone conversation with Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, amid the military escalation by the so-called Houthi militia on the western coast and its threats to the security of Bab al-Mandab.

The minister stated that the militia’s escalation on the western coast and the threat to Bab al-Mandab security fall within a plan serving the Iranian agenda. Al-Zoubi stressed that protecting Bab al-Mandab is linked to preserving Yemen’s sovereignty and simultaneously represents a shared interest for the region and the world. She emphasized the importance of mobilizing effective Arab and international support that translates condemnations into practical measures supporting the Yemeni government and enabling it to protect the country’s coasts, ports, and islands.

For his part, Al Zayani reiterated his country’s supportive stance toward the Yemeni government, Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as its condemnation of the Houthi escalation and attacks, which have caused humanitarian suffering and undermined Yemen’s security and stability.
