Al Ahly stumble... and Pyramids at the top
Al Ahly suffered their first draw of the season as hosts Al Mokawloon Al Arab forced a 1-1 draw in the fourth round yesterday at the Green Mountain Stadium in Cairo. Meanwhile, Pyramids reclaimed the top spot in the standings with a 1-0 victory over visitors El Gouna. Islam Gaber (39’) gave Al Mokawloon Al Arab the lead from a penalty, while Ahmed Sayed “Zizo” (58’) equalized for Al Ahly from a penalty spot. The result lifted Al Ahly’s tally to 10 points, placing them third on goal difference behind second-placed Zamalek, and two points behind league leaders Pyramids. The draw marked Al Ahly’s first under Moroccan coach Hussein Amouta, following three consecutive wins at the start of the campaign. At the Air Defense Stadium in Cairo, Pyramids regained the summit of the table with a 1-0 win over El Gouna. Khalid Sadek (52’) scored an own goal while attempting to clear a cross from Nasser Maher, sending the ball into the net of his own goalkeeper, Islam Mohamed.
