Trump: Iran War Will End After Midterm Elections
Washington (Agencies): US President Donald Trump expressed his belief that the war with Iran will end “immediately after” the midterm congressional elections in November, because Tehran is attempting to influence the vote, but it will not be able to withstand US economic pressure for much longer. The US president told reporters before departing to attend a Republican conference in Dallas: “I believe the war will end immediately after the elections because they can no longer hold out for much longer. They are desperate to try to influence the elections.” Trump said oil prices would also drop immediately after the war ends, right after the elections, noting that diplomatic negotiations remain possible but are not his preferred option. He added: “Yes, negotiations could happen, but that is not something we are looking forward to.”
Mount Axe
In his speech at the Republican conference in Dallas, Trump said the United States had observed some activity at Mount Faes in Iran, adding, “We may have to strike another site, Mount Axe, after we have observed some movements here, and we know exactly what is going on there.” Trump reaffirmed that he would not allow Iran to possess a nuclear weapon, asserting that they hope to wait until after the midterms in the hope that Democrats will win, which could lead to a better deal for them. He continued, “The war will end after the midterms. They hope we will lose so they can deal with weak and stupid Democrats and manage to get a nuclear bomb.” He stated that Iran desperately wants to reach a deal, expecting it to change its stance immediately after the elections. He also reiterated his previous call to rename the Strait of Hormuz. He said, “We win the war against Iran and control the strait, and I think we should call it the Trump Strait.”
On the domestic front, Trump rejected calls from some Republicans to focus more on the economy rather than political attacks, insisting that he must continue the political fight and highlight what he described as the “wonderful performance” of his administration, saying his administration has achieved a lot for the country. He also spoke about the strength of the US economy, stating that investments in the United States have reached unprecedented levels and that new factories are being built across the country.
In response to a question about why some Republican candidates did not attend the party conference in Texas, the US president said that everyone who wanted to attend would participate, clarifying that the hall cannot accommodate 500 politicians and that some candidates running in tight races may not be able to attend. Trump expressed his willingness to consider issuing a pardon to former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn if he found the circumstances of the case warranted it, describing what Flynn endured as humiliating.
