Inflation in Egypt falls to 14.5%

Data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics showed that the annual inflation rate for consumer prices in Egyptian cities fell to 14.5% in August, down from 14.9% in July. The annual inflation rate for the entire republic slowed to 12.7% in August, compared to 13% in the previous month of July. Meanwhile, the monthly inflation rate in August 2026 remained stable at the levels seen in the previous July.

The food and beverages section recorded a decline of 1.2%, driven by a 0.1% drop in prices for the cereals and bread group, a 1.5% decrease in the meat and poultry group, a 0.1% fall in the fish and seafood group, and a 7.0% drop in the vegetables group.

The alcoholic beverages and tobacco section rose by 0.2%, due to a 12.7% increase in the alcoholic beverages group and a 0.2% rise in the tobacco group.

The clothing and footwear section increased by 0.5%, owing to a 0.8% rise in the fabrics group, a 0.5% increase in the ready-made clothing group, a 0.6% rise in the other clothing and accessories group, a 1.3% increase in the clothing cleaning, repair, and rental group, and a 0.4% rise in the footwear group.

The housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels sector recorded a 1.9% increase, driven by a 0.8% rise in actual rent for housing, a 0.5% increase in housing maintenance and repair, and a 4.3% jump in electricity, gas, and other fuel materials.

The furniture, household equipment, and supplies section rose by 0.7%, resulting from a 0.2% increase in household furnishings, a 0.3% rise in household appliances, a 0.5% increase in glassware, tableware, and household utensils, a 0.9% rise in home and garden tools and equipment, and a 0.8% increase in goods and services used for home maintenance.
