The “Central Banker Report Cards” ranking is one of the most prominent global assessments measuring the performance of central bank governors. Published annually by Global Finance since 1994, it covers approximately 100 countries, territories, and regions, along with the European Union and several regional monetary institutions. Ratings range from A+ to F, based on an evaluation of governors’ performance across several key files, including inflation control, achieving economic growth targets, maintaining currency stability, managing interest rates, and independence from political pressures. An A grade represents excellent performance, while lower grades reflect declining performance levels.
Joseph Giarrubbo, founder and editor-in-chief of Global Finance, stated that central bank governors face an extremely complex task amid persistent inflationary pressures, unclear growth prospects, and rapidly changing economic conditions, while simultaneously needing to maintain market and public confidence.
Among the list, Khalid Mohammed Al-Amri, Governor of the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates, Abdul Latif Al-Jawhari, Governor of the Bank Al-Maghrib (Morocco), and Martin Schlegel, Governor of the National Bank of Switzerland, were placed in the A- grade category within the elite of the world’s highest-rated central bank governors for 2026.
