White House: Fundamental plans to end the war in Ukraine
Washington-Moscow-Agencies: The White House revealed yesterday that U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner discussed “substantial plans” with Russian President Vladimir Putin on ending the war in Ukraine during talks hosted by the Kremlin, as part of Washington’s efforts to revive peace negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv. A White House official told the Agence France-Presse that Witkoff and Kushner “discussed substantial plans regarding the next steps to be announced in the coming weeks, and they are looking forward to equally productive meetings in Ukraine.” Earlier, Kremlin advisor Yuri Ushakov said the talks were “very useful,” but he did not indicate any progress. Ushakov added that envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner “put forward a number of ideas regarding possible ways to reach a settlement,” but he did not specify what those ideas were. He said Putin informed them that Russia is making “real progress” on the battlefield and that he is confident in achieving his country’s objectives, stressing the need to address “all the root causes of the conflict.” The Kremlin described Putin’s meeting with Kushner and Witkoff as “constructive and very frank,” affirming that the U.S. president’s envoys pledged to take advantage of the Russian president’s assessments of settlement options with Ukraine. The Kremlin added that Putin told Kushner and Witkoff that the root problem of the conflict with Ukraine must be resolved, noting that the U.S. envoys presented the Russian president with “several ideas” to end the war. Putin met with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner at the Kremlin on Saturday to discuss ways to end the war in Ukraine, which has been ongoing for more than four years. Putin considered the talks with the U.S. side “always useful,” adding that Trump continues his efforts to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Trump had indicated on Friday that the United States has a new proposal aimed at ending the war, but he did not provide details.
