Al-Qadisiya seeks victory, while Al-Arabi looks to compensate against Al-Salmiya

Al-Nassr, the league leaders, face a tough test as they travel to face Qadsia at 6:35 PM today at the Mohammed Al-Hamad Stadium, in the opening match of the third round of the Zain Premier League. Meanwhile, Al-Arabi looks to regain its balance and secure its first victory when it hosts Salibikhaet at 8:50 PM at the Ali Al-Salim Al-Sabah Stadium.

The round continues tomorrow, Saturday, with matches between Kuwait and Al-Jahra, and Fahaheel and Al-Tadamon, before concluding on Sunday with clashes between Al-Salmiya and Al-Sahel, and Al-Shabab and Kazma.

Al-Nassr tops the standings with six points, having achieved a perfect record from two matches. Kazma, Kuwait, Al-Shabab, and Al-Sahel follow in second through fifth place, each with four points. Al-Salmiya, Al-Jahra, and Qadsia occupy the next positions with three points each, while Al-Arabi and Salibikhaet have one point. Fahaheel and Al-Tadamon sit at the bottom of the table without any points.

In the first match, Al-Nassr aims to maintain its strong momentum and keep its lead, having won its first two matches against Al-Salmiya and Fahaheel by the same 2-1 scoreline. Under the guidance of national coach Zahir Al-Adwani, the "Oranges" delivered solid performances in both games, demonstrating their ability to handle match conditions and secure victories. However, the clash with Qadsia represents a different challenge for Al-Nassr, as it is their first encounter against one of the league’s established teams. This match will largely reveal their capacity to sustain competition at the top and contend with experienced and ambitious opponents.

On the other hand, Qadsia, led by veteran coach Mohammed Ibrahim, seeks to regain its footing and make up for its loss to Kuwait in the previous round’s top-of-the-table clash. In that match, the "Yellows" failed to meet expectations and lost 1-0. Ibrahim faced criticism from fans after the game, making today’s match an opportunity for Qadsia to correct its course and return to the path of victories.

The match is also expected to feature the debut of Qadsia’s Moroccan striker Hamza Khaba, who missed the first two rounds due to a suspension carried over from last season when he played for Al-Arabi. The "Yellows" are counting on his attacking addition to enhance their ability to score against Al-Nassr.

The second match brings together Al-Arabi and Salibikhaet, both currently holding one point, in a contest that appears more critical for the "Green" side. Al-Arabi had hoped for a better start to the season, especially as they finished as runners-up last year and are aiming to return to the podium this season. This places them under pressure to quickly regain their balance and avoid losing more points early in the season.

Salibikhaet, meanwhile, lost their opening match to newly promoted Al-Sahel 1-0 before drawing 1-1 with Al-Shabab in the second round. Their results so far are unsatisfactory, especially since their opponents in those matches are teams likely to compete with them to avoid the relegation zone, making point collection a primary objective in their upcoming fixtures.

The round continues tomorrow, Saturday, with the Kuwait vs. Al-Jahra clash, as both teams enter with high morale following victories in the previous round. Kuwait edged past Qadsia 1-0, while Al-Jahra secured a notable 2-1 win over Al-Arabi. Syrian coach Firas Al-Khatib of Kuwait aims to continue the winning streak and boost his team’s tally, hoping for a slip by leading Al-Nassr to close the gap at the top. Meanwhile, Al-Jahra coach Ahmed Abdul-Karim hopes to capitalize on his players’ positive morale and secure another victory against a major team, building on their success against Al-Arabi last round.

In the second match tomorrow, Fahaheel and Al-Tadamon meet in a contest between two sides seeking their first point, having suffered two defeats in the opening two rounds. The match offers both teams a suitable opportunity to correct their course and move away from the bottom of the table.
