Genoa sign Shaarawy and Robinho's son

Genoa, the Italian club, signed former international Stephan El Shaarawy on a free transfer yesterday following the expiration of his contract with Roma last June, thereby returning him to the club where his professional career began in 2008 at the age of 16. The club also announced the signing of Robinho Junior, son of former Brazilian international Robinho.

In a statement, Genoa said: “Genoa Football Club announces the completion of the acquisition of Stephan El Shaarawy’s sporting rights, as he returns to the club of his beginnings, once again donning the red and blue shirt,” without disclosing the length of the contract.

The 33-year-old striker began his career in Genoa’s academy and made his Serie A debut for the club before moving to Milan between 2011 and 2015, then to French side Monaco (2015–2016), and to Roma in two spells, first from 2016 to 2019, and then from 2021 until last June. He also had a stint in China with Shanghai Shenhua between 2019 and 2021.

The Egyptian-born forward, nicknamed the “Little Pharaoh,” has scored 73 goals in Serie A and 109 goals across all competitions throughout his career.

Genoa also signed Robinho Junior on loan with an option to buy. He is the son of former Brazilian star Robinho, who previously played for Spanish club Real Madrid, English club Manchester City, and Milan. Robinho Junior made 19 appearances in the Brazilian league for Santos during the 2025 and 2026 seasons, without managing to score any goals.
