Iraqi Interior Ministry Expels 3,463 Officers and Personnel

Baghdad – Agencies: The Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced the final dismissal of 3,463 officers and personnel from service, following cases of administrative and financial corruption and desertion from duty. Major General Miqdad Miri, head of the Ministry’s Relations and Media Directorate, stated that the decision included 38 officers found guilty of involvement in administrative and financial corruption cases, along with 180 personnel against whom final judicial rulings had been issued in similar cases. He added that the Ministry also dismissed 3,245 personnel who had deserted their posts, as part of measures aimed at reinforcing discipline and strengthening adherence to laws and professional duties. Miri affirmed that the Ministry is continuing to apply a strict approach to combat corruption and enhance discipline within the security institution, emphasizing that “no one is immune if proven involved in cases compromising integrity or damaging the institution’s reputation.” He clarified that these measures were taken during the first 100 days of the current government’s tenure, reaffirming the continuation of reform and accountability efforts without exception, with the goal of building a professional security apparatus that earns public trust and upholds the state’s prestige.
