Sisi: Security of the Red Sea is the exclusive responsibility of the littoral states

Cairo (Agencies): Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi affirmed on Thursday that ensuring the security of the Red Sea is the exclusive responsibility of the littoral states, rejecting any attempts to destabilize it or push it toward militarization and internationalization. This statement came during al-Sisi’s meeting with Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani, attended by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and several officials from both countries.

The spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency, Mohamed El-Shenawy, said the meeting emphasized the necessity of guaranteeing freedom of navigation in international sea lanes, given the strategic importance of the Red Sea to Egypt’s national security. The talks also covered developments in the Horn of Africa region, where both sides agreed on the importance of coordinating efforts to support the security and stability of the area, while respecting the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of its states.
