Bitcoin stabilizes below $78,000

Bitcoin moved modestly, holding steady below its recent highs, as investors awaited significant regulatory developments in the United States. Meanwhile, concerns linked to geopolitical tensions and expectations of interest rate hikes tempered risk appetite in the cryptocurrency market. The world’s largest cryptocurrency rose 0.2% to $77,759.40 during morning trading, after touching $82,000 in late August before giving up part of its gains. Purchases by major corporate Bitcoin holders, led by Strategy, alongside expectations for greater regulatory clarity in the U.S., helped support prices and preserve some of the recent gains. However, growing bets on interest rate hikes in advanced economies, particularly the United States and Japan, kept caution prevailing in the markets.

U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Paul Atkins said he expects a key procedural vote in the Senate on the “Clarity Act” on September 15, noting that the legislation could reach the desk of U.S. President Donald Trump later this month. Atkins clarified that the SEC is simultaneously working on its own regulatory framework for crypto assets, which could be implemented alongside the anticipated law or independently if its passage is delayed.

The “Clarity Act” is viewed as a pivotal step toward strengthening the regulatory framework for the cryptocurrency market in the United States, despite ongoing political disagreements over certain provisions related to stablecoins and the trading of digital assets by government officials.

Other cryptocurrencies saw limited movement. Ether fell 0.7% to $2,404.84, while XRP rose 1.6%. Cardano led the gains among major cryptocurrencies with a 4% increase, followed by Solana’s 0.8% rise and Binance Coin’s 1.2% gain. In the meme coin category, Dogecoin rose 1.4%, while Trump Coin declined 1%.
