To the Municipality, with greetings

The government’s reform drive has intensified efforts to eradicate corruption during the era of His Highness the Amir, and all have praised the government’s approach, represented by His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah and his deputy, Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef. About a month ago, the Municipality mobilized its teams across its six governorates to remove iron fences bordering gardens adjacent to homes. Here, we stand with you. However, I found no answer as to why vegetation such as Casuarina hedges is trimmed to a height of only 1.5 meters. We are a conservative society; it is unreasonable for women to sit in the home garden while passersby can see their hijabs. In effect, we have become a spectacle for everyone coming and going. Why not exempt the garden hedge from being trimmed to two meters? Let us not forget that Municipality inspectors have the right to enter and inspect home gardens at any time to identify violations and fulfill their official duties. Moreover, the setback area adjacent to the house is not large enough to construct a government facility that would serve the neighborhood. Furthermore, many citizens have paid substantial sums to acquire homes with setbacks, intending to use them to create home gardens that provide a private retreat for them and their families. I would also like to address the issue of car canopies. Why must licensing be restricted to a single provider? Sometimes a house is located on a corner or has a layout that allows for more than one canopy, especially in large families comprising a husband, wife, children, and grandchildren. Everyone is aware of Kuwait’s summer temperatures, which can reach 50 degrees Celsius. Many cars have leather interiors, and prolonged exposure to the sun damages the dashboard and the car’s paint. We therefore urge the Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning, Engineer Abdul Latif Al-Mashari, to reconsider the regulations on the height of garden hedges and to allow multiple canopies per household.
