Kuwait: Iranian attacks are an escalation that threatens regional security

Amid the repeated, despicable, and brazen Iranian attacks on the country, states and organizations have affirmed their full support for Kuwait, reiterating its right to take all measures necessary to protect its citizens and residents, and to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity. They noted that Iran’s brazen practices are incompatible with international and humanitarian values and norms, constitute a blatant violation of laws and agreements, and pose a threat to the security and stability of the region, while undermining efforts aimed at de-escalation and conflict resolution.

The General Staff of the Kuwaiti Army announced that air defenses intercepted hostile missile and drone attacks following the despicable Iranian aggression. In a statement, the General Staff said that any explosions heard were the result of air defense systems intercepting hostile attacks, and called on everyone to comply with safety and security instructions issued by the competent authorities.

For its part, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Kuwait’s condemnation and strongest denunciation of the repeated despicable Iranian attacks on the country, the latest of which occurred early Thursday morning. These attacks represent a blatant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty, a direct threat to its security, stability, and the safety of its citizens and residents, and a serious breach of international law, the UN Charter, and Security Council Resolution 2817.

In a statement, the Ministry reaffirmed that the continuation of these brazen attacks reflects an aggressive posture and constitutes a dangerous escalation that threatens the security and stability of the region, while systematically undermining diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation and tension reduction. The Ministry stressed that Kuwait reserves its full right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty, protect its security, and defend its territory and vital installations against any aggression or threat, based on its inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter and international law.

For its part, the United Arab Emirates strongly condemned the aggressive Iranian attacks targeting Kuwait, Bahrain, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq with missiles and drones. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a release that these aggressive attacks constitute a blatant violation of the sovereignty of states and a threat to their security and stability. The Ministry reaffirmed the UAE’s full solidarity with Kuwait, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Republic of Iraq, and the Kurdistan Regional Government, and its support for all measures aimed at preserving their security and stability.

The Muslim World League strongly condemned Iran’s despicable targeting of the Saudi tanker “Sidra” as it transited the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the despicable Iranian attacks on Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan. In a statement, the League’s Secretary-General and Chairman of the Council of Senior Scholars, Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa, denounced the Iranian attacks, which violate all religious values, international laws, and humanitarian norms. Al-Issa emphasized full solidarity with Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Jordan in all measures they take to safeguard their security, sovereignty, and assets. He expressed sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its leadership and people, and to the families of the deceased crew members of the “Sidra” tanker as a result of this despicable aggression.
