Trump for Ending the War and Relying Solely on Economic Pressure

Washington – Agencies: The US Wall Street Journal reported that the administration of President Donald Trump is currently considering how to resolve the fate of the war with Iran and whether it is possible to declare a halt to hostilities. The newspaper quoted US officials as saying that Trump is consulting with his top aides on the possibility of announcing an end to the war against Iran... (See page 12). According to these officials, Trump believes that continuing to apply economic pressure will ultimately force the Iranian regime either to dismantle its nuclear program or to collapse. However, the newspaper quoted informed sources as saying that US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth is working to extend the deployment of forces in the region, which means the conflict could extend into next year. Two US sources confirmed the deployment of 19 warships, including two aircraft carriers and 13 guided-missile destroyers, across the region. Meanwhile, US sources indicated that the duration of the usual deployment of US air defense forces has been increased from nine months to one year. Reuters had previously reported that senior advisors to President Trump are pushing to de-escalate the war with Iran ahead of the midterm elections scheduled for November, in order to limit electoral losses for Republicans. The agency quoted four informed sources, who requested anonymity, as saying that White House officials are seeking to prevent this conflict from dominating the electoral landscape to protect the Republicans’ narrow majority in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, with plans to escalate military operations after voting concludes. A White House official said, “We continue to pressure Iran... but November represents a priority.”
