Dortmund signs Nwaneri

Arsenal striker Ethan Nwaneri has joined Borussia Dortmund on a one-year loan deal on the final day of the transfer window, according to the German Bundesliga runners-up, who announced the move yesterday. The 19-year-old, who spent the second half of last season on loan at French club Marseille, joins Dortmund to cover for the absence of new signing Yannis Konstantelias, who is injured. According to German media, the agreement does not include an option to buy. Dortmund sporting director Lars Ricken described Nwaneri as “the best possible solution from a sporting perspective” following Konstantelias’s injury, praising the English teenager in a statement. Konstantelias joined Dortmund in August and impressed in his Bundesliga debut on Saturday, but suffered a serious knee injury just minutes after scoring a goal. Ricken said: “By loaning in Ethan, we have managed to sign a highly talented player with excellent technical skills. We are pleased to have completed this deal just before the transfer window closed.” Nwaneri has scored 10 goals and provided two assists in 51 appearances for Arsenal, and added two goals in 11 matches for Marseille last season.
