Richarlison: No one will decide my future for me
Tottenham striker Richarlison is preparing to return to Everton in the English Premier League, despite insisting that “no one will decide my future from now on.” Everton are in talks with Tottenham regarding a potential deal to bring the Brazilian international back to Merseyside.
Tottenham’s Italian manager, Roberto De Zerbi, stated on Saturday that Richarlison was excluded from the squad that lost 2-2 to Newcastle because the player had “requested to leave on multiple occasions.” However, Richarlison took to Instagram on Monday to present a completely different account of events, ahead of the transfer window closure.
In a striking statement, Richarlison said, “After everything I have gone through in recent years, I have decided that no one will decide my future on my behalf anymore.” He added, “I have endured many bad things, almost all of which happened because others made decisions for me. Pressure, threats, and retaliatory measures do not scare me. I have been through much worse, believe me.”
The Brazilian continued, “I have always made it clear, on every opportunity given to me, that a move to another club will only happen if it is also beneficial for the club. If it is not, I will never agree. Just as I refused to leave when things were going badly and they needed me.”
The 29-year-old went on, “I have stayed and given everything I have. Therefore, I hope my situation will be handled with the same respect that I have always shown to Tottenham and to everyone I have worked with during this period. Just do not try to make the decision for me.”
Richarlison confirmed he would be happy to return to Everton, the club where he played between 2018 and 2022. The striker has struggled to establish himself at Tottenham since his move to north London four years ago. He said, “If Tottenham and Everton reach an agreement, I will return to a club I love very much. Yes, my intention was to return to the place where I was extremely happy, but the negotiations proceeded only in the way some people wanted, and that will not be the case anymore.”
