President of the Security Council: The Sudanese Crisis is the Worst in the World
New York – Agencies: Christine Marcus Lassen, President of the Security Council, stated that the Rapid Support Forces are committing “atrocious crimes” in the Darfur region of western Sudan. She added that the Sudanese crisis ranks among the worst in the world, emphasizing the urgent need to ensure the protection of civilians. Lassen confirmed in an interview with Al Arabiya channel that the Security Council is seeking to hold accountable those responsible for committing crimes against humanity and war crimes in Sudan. She noted that the Sudanese crisis had long been “forgotten” on the international stage, pointing out that the Council had received warnings about the possibility of atrocities in the city of El Obeid, firmly stating, “We will not allow that.”
