Opening corruption files in the “Disabled” sector

Kuwait’s Minister of Social Affairs, Family, and Childhood, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwail, announced the referral of facts and suspicions related to the damage of public funds at the Public Authority for Persons with Disabilities to the Public Prosecution, to take the necessary legal measures against a number of officials and employees. In a press statement, she said the referral comes as part of continuing the approach of oversight and accountability and protecting public funds, noting that this is the second referral within a week. She explained that the referral was based on the findings of an investigation committee formed to examine violations related to maintenance works and contracts, which identified the disbursement of financial amounts for works that were not fully implemented on the ground. She added that the value of the damage under investigation was estimated at approximately 1.211 million dinars, affirming that all facts carrying a criminal suspicion will follow their legal course before the competent authorities. Al-Huwail stressed that protecting public funds is a responsibility that allows for no leniency, confirming the adoption of necessary administrative and legal measures and working to recover any amounts disbursed without justification, thereby safeguarding the rights of the Authority and preserving public funds. She affirmed that accountability will extend to anyone proven to be negligent or responsible, regardless of their position, without exception, emphasizing the continuation of oversight and auditing activities to ensure integrity and proper management of public funds. Earlier, Al-Huwail had announced the referral of other facts to the Public Prosecution, as part of the oversight measures taken by the Ministry to address any violations or suspicions affecting public funds.
