Kuwait and India: Strengthening Bilateral Defense Cooperation

Defense Minister Sheikh Abdullah Al-Ali met with the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, General Syed Asim Munir, prior to the conclusion of his official visit to Pakistan last Thursday. The Ministry of Defense stated in a press release that the meeting discussed existing coordination between the armed forces of the two countries, opportunities to develop areas of joint work, and exchanges of views on several topics related to bilateral relations, contributing to the enhancement and development of defense cooperation between the two nations.

On another front, India and Kuwait agreed during the first meeting of the Joint Defense Commission between the two countries, held in the capital New Delhi, to strengthen bilateral defense cooperation in the fields of training, military exercises, military medicine, defense industries, and research and development. The Indian Ministry of Defense stated in a press release that the meeting represents an important step toward implementing the objectives outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding on defense cooperation between the two countries, which was signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kuwait in December 2024. The Kuwaiti delegation also held discussions with representatives of the Indian defense industry sector regarding potential areas of cooperation.
