Vaccine Protects Against Heart Attacks and Strokes

Scientists have revealed that the current shingles vaccine significantly reduces the risk of heart attacks and strokes, emphasizing that this effect could help prevent thousands of deaths annually. The study relied on health records of approximately 70,000 individuals in the United States. It found that those who received the Shingrix vaccine were 12% less likely to be diagnosed with a cardiovascular condition during the three and a half years following vaccination. Dr. Maxim Taquet, a lecturer at the University of Oxford and leader of the research team, stated, “Vaccinating older adults against shingles could prevent hundreds of thousands of cases of coronary heart disease, stroke, and heart failure worldwide, making it one of the most impactful medical interventions we can offer to protect both the brain and the heart in later life. The potential impact could be enormous.”
