15,800 deaths in Germany due to heat

The Robert Koch Institute announced that the number of heat-related deaths in Germany this summer reached 15,800, the highest figure since 1992. The institute released updated data covering the period from the beginning of summer through August 16. The majority of heat-related fatalities occurred among individuals aged 75 and older, accounting for 11,900 deaths. This summer set a new record for heat-related mortality in Germany. According to government data dating back to 1992, the previous record was held by 1994, when epidemiologists estimated that 10,100 people died due to heat.
