Trump pledges to ban Sharia law and prevent the “Islamization” of America
Washington (Agencies): U.S. President Donald Trump pledged to prevent the implementation of Sharia law within the United States, asserting that the American legal system is “the best in the world.” These remarks came amid a broader debate escalating within Republican circles over what are described as “threats” posed by certain religious practices to the U.S. Constitution, with reference to what he characterized as a parallel spread of Sharia in major European cities such as London and Paris.
Trump clarified his position unequivocally in an interview with conservative radio host Glenn Beck when asked whether he would support legislation or an executive action banning Sharia. He stated, “Regarding Sharia, I will say absolutely that this is not this country. There is no Sharia here. And there are pockets of it, as you know.” He then added, referring to Europe, “Go to London, go to Paris. It’s almost like a second way of life. This is ridiculous.”
He concluded by reaffirming his support for blocking any attempt to establish a competing legal system, stating that he “will completely block this Sharia issue, which is happening a little bit in this country, and when we see it, we remove it, and it must be removed.” He emphasized that “you have one system, we have a great system, sometimes it’s very frustrating, but it’s the best there is.”
These comments come as the U.S. Congress sees notable legislative activity on the subject. Republican lawmakers have introduced bills such as the “Sharia-Free America Act,” aimed at preventing the entry of foreigners committed to Sharia and deporting residents if their adherence is proven. Additionally, Senator Tommy Tuberville proposed the “No Sharia Act,” which would prohibit courts from applying rulings or contracts based on foreign laws if they conflict with constitutional rights, particularly in matters of marriage, divorce, custody, and inheritance.
Supporters of these initiatives argue that Sharia is “incompatible with the American way of life” and threatens the social fabric. At the state level, several states have taken similar steps. In Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis signed a law prohibiting courts from applying foreign or religious laws, including Sharia, if they violate constitutional rights. Local authorities described this measure as the “strongest step” against what is termed “hidden jihad.” In Texas, voters overwhelmingly approved a ballot measure banning Sharia, amid statements from members of Congress warning of the “erosion” of legal sovereignty.
Furthermore, the “Sharia-Free America Caucus” in the House of Representatives, comprising dozens of members, has been formed to discuss these issues and highlight what they view as examples from Europe.
The reference to European cities reflects a previous stance by Trump. In September 2025, during a speech before the United Nations General Assembly, he strongly criticized London Mayor Sadiq Khan, claiming the city had “changed” and “wanted to go to Sharia.” British authorities rejected these allegations at the time, dismissing them as “nonsense” or “racist” comments, and affirmed that Sharia councils in the UK, numbering in the dozens, are limited to voluntary arbitration in personal religious matters and carry no legal binding force, with British courts being the only ones with authority.
