Qatar's Prime Minister Discusses in Tehran Creating Favorable Conditions for Resuming Dialogue

Doha-Tehran-Agencies: The Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, discussed de-escalation, creating conducive conditions for resuming dialogue, and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz during his visit to Tehran yesterday. Majid Al-Ansari, spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the Qatari Prime Minister met with several officials in Tehran to discuss ways to de-escalate tensions and create favorable conditions for dialogue. Al-Ansari added that the visit comes “based on Qatar’s firm position that the diplomatic track is the best way to resolve differences and enhance security and stability in the region.” He clarified that the Qatari Prime Minister’s talks in Tehran also addressed freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the necessity of restoring it to its pre-state, prior to the start of the US war on Iran on February 28 last year. In a related development, Iranian television quoted the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson as saying that the Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs’ visit to Tehran is part of ongoing Iranian-Qatari consultations aimed at expanding bilateral relations and enhancing regional peace and security. Iranian TV noted that the Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs discussed with Iranian officials and exchanged views on the continuation of Qatari mediation efforts and initiatives, as well as other developments in the region.
