Washington does not rule out reaching a nuclear deal with Iran «that is in everyone's best interest»

Washington – Agencies: U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright announced that the United States does not rule out the possibility of reaching an agreement with Iran regarding a civilian nuclear program, provided Tehran abandons what he described as its “weapons program.” Wright told reporters yesterday that it is “possible to develop a civilian nuclear program in cooperation with the United States, which would be in everyone’s best interest.” He added that “the best path toward that is a coordinated agreement, under which they would abandon the weapons program,” noting that Washington seeks to end Iran’s nuclear program through negotiations.

For his part, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi announced tangible progress in talks concerning Iran’s nuclear file, pointing to the identification of several issues that will be addressed in the coming phase. Grossi said during a press conference in Washington yesterday that progress had been achieved through communications between U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner and Iranian representatives. He added that the parties had succeeded in identifying the issues and areas on which they would work jointly, with the aim of reaching a stage where current disagreements could be overcome. Grossi affirmed that Iran still possesses approximately 440 kilograms of highly enriched uranium, amid ongoing controversy over international inspections of Iran’s nuclear facilities.
