Muhammad (peace be upon him) River of Mercy

On the occasion of the blessed Mawlid al-Nabawi, the souls are refreshed with breezes of love, and wailing rises in the sanctuary of the Beloved, as hearts turn toward the Master of Prophets and Messengers, and tongues are engrossed in sending prayers and peace upon him, out of love, reverence, and obedience to the command of Allah, the Exalted: “Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, ask [Allah to confer] blessing upon him and ask [Allah to grant him] peace.” (Quran 33:56)

On this fragrant occasion, these verses express sincere love and an overwhelming longing to meet the Chosen One in his noble garden, on a Day when no soul will possess anything for another, and the command on that Day will be entirely Allah’s.

====================

Your remembrance, O Messenger of Allah, is a light that envelops the universe from the dawn of time. You are the sun that rises with the splendors of your noble memory and virtuous traditions. If a strayer falls into sins, you pour upon him from the river of mercy. Your sail in the turbulent sea is guidance, and from the waves of fears, you are a safe shore.

We send blessings upon you as long as servants prostrate, and as long as hands are raised to Allah, and as long as birds sing in the thickets, and as long as the muezzin calls to prayer. In this world, your path is straight, and whoever follows it proceeds to safety.

Great is your status in the heights of the Quran, great in noble deeds and honor. In the Hereafter, you will be an intercessor for creation when creatures are seized by distress. Through your remembrance, hearts wander in love, and affection and hopes unite. If the paths to reach you seem narrow to us, your love, my master, is the pulse of the heart. If tears of longing overflow from the eyes, that tear is the sign of eloquence.

Praises fall short of your radiance, and meanings struggle to capture your virtues. My prayers upon you elevate my status, while praising others is a form of humiliation. Take me to you on the Day of Meeting, when hands fall upon the chest. And O Lord, do not deprive my tongue of sending peace upon the Chosen One at all times.
