Research Institute Participates in China's Inventions Exhibition
The Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) announced that researchers from the Institute’s Water Research Center will participate in the 12th International Exhibition of Inventions (IEI 2026), scheduled to be held in Guangzhou, People’s Republic of China, from today until August 23, to showcase a scientific innovation in the field of wastewater treatment and reuse. The Institute clarified that the participation comes through the nomination of Dr. Mishari Khajja and Dr. Mohammed Al-Muntasir Ahmed to present a patent titled “Wetland System for Treating Wastewater Resulting from Reverse Osmosis Wastewater Treatment,” which was granted a patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office in August 2025. The Institute explained that the innovation relies on employing a wetland system to treat wastewater resulting from reverse osmosis wastewater treatment, thereby contributing to improved water quality and enabling its reuse in various applications, as well as providing sustainable environmental and economic solutions. It noted that the system helps reduce reliance on heavy metals, lower levels of organic pollutants and nutrients, including nitrogen and phosphorus, while also minimizing pathogens and microplastics, enhancing biodiversity, and reducing carbon emissions. The Institute added that among the key advantages of the innovation are the low construction, operation, and maintenance costs, along with the simplicity of its design and its technical and financial effectiveness, which enhance the prospects for its application in water treatment and reuse.
