Second collapse of Musalla in three days

Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has revealed that he suffers from a neurological disorder, after being carried off the pitch following his collapse during a pre-season friendly match yesterday in a scenario that has repeated itself for the second time in three days. The 23-year-old player fell to the ground shortly after coming on as a substitute in the final stages of the match against Heidenheim, a German second-division club. Musiala appeared disoriented while receiving medical treatment before being helped off the field.

Later, Musiala took to social media to explain that he suffers from a condition that can lead to “temporary but treatable episodes.” He said, “I have been diagnosed with short, temporary absence seizures that are easy to treat, caused by a neurological issue. This condition can lead to situations like the ones that recently occurred, such as what happened against Leipzig and now against Heidenheim.” He added, “I know it may seem alarming at first glance, but for me, it has now become part of my daily life.”

Musiala expressed “deep gratitude for all the messages and support” he has received, noting, “I am receiving the best possible medical care regarding this matter, and I am very optimistic.”

After the match, Bayern Munich’s sporting director, Max Eberl, stated that Musiala would issue a statement about his condition soon. Eberl added, “Jamal will speak about this in the near future. We were aware of the situation and understand the context.” He continued, “Jamal is in the locker room, changing his clothes and showering.”

The German international also collapsed on the pitch during last Saturday’s match against Leipzig, requiring medical attention amid hot weather in the Bavarian capital, where temperatures exceeded 30 degrees Celsius. Musiala missed the first six months of last season due to an ankle fracture sustained during the FIFA Club World Cup, but he returned in the second half of the season and played for Germany in the 2026 World Cup.
