Westbrook ends his career

NBA superstar Russell Westbrook, the league’s former Most Valuable Player and the all-time leader in triple-doubles, announced his retirement from basketball yesterday at the age of 37, after an 18-season career in the league. The American point guard posted a cryptic, three-and-a-half-minute video titled “Goodbye” on his social media accounts, featuring voiceover by actor Michael B. Jordan and showing Westbrook reliving some of the most iconic moments of his career. The accompanying caption read, “Sometimes you don’t realize you’ve already seen the end. You had to be there. And now it’s over.” Westbrook, an Olympic gold medalist in 2012 and a nine-time NBA All-Star, concluded his career after leading the league in scoring twice, in 2014-15 and 2016-17, while playing for Oklahoma City, where he spent 11 seasons. During his tenure with the Thunder, alongside Kevin Durant and James Harden, he won the Western Conference title in 2012 before losing in the NBA Finals to the Miami Heat.
