New injury threatens Pogba's future
French midfielder Paul Pogba suffered a new thigh muscle injury yesterday, on the first day of Monaco’s training camp at England’s National Centre “Saint George Park,” raising further doubts about his future with the Emirati club. Following a 3-2 friendly victory over Liverpool on Sunday in a match in which Pogba did not participate, Brazilian coach Felipe Luis granted a day of rest to the 33 players at the camp. During a training session after practice resumed, Pogba sustained another injury, this time to his left thigh, after returning to group training following a prolonged period of recurring knee problems and pain in his right knee. Since the start of the pre-season preparations, the 2018 World Cup champion has played just 45 minutes with the team, during the second half of a friendly against Saint-Brieuc on July 18, in which the Juventus player and former Manchester United star featured alongside young players from the reserve squad. At the beginning of July, on the sidelines of the presentation of coach Felipe Luis, Monaco’s Brazilian general manager Thiago Scuro was clear about Pogba’s (33) situation, noting that the player had featured in only six Ligue 1 matches last season, totaling 115 minutes. Scuro said at the time: “Our relationship with Paul is very open and transparent. If the time comes when the player’s aspirations differ from those of the club, we will need to talk and find a solution. Athletic performance will provide all the answers we need. He can leave or stay.”
