Egypt: Close coordination with the GCC to contain escalation in the region

Cairo, KUNA: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s steadfast support for the security and stability of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, expressing Cairo’s solidarity with them and emphasizing the importance of continuing close coordination between Cairo and the Council to put an end to the current military escalation in the region, thereby addressing the concerns of various parties. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement yesterday morning that this came during a meeting held by Minister Abdelatty with GCC Secretary-General Jassem Al-Budaiwi, during which he affirmed that the security of GCC countries is an integral part of Egypt’s national security. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for the measures taken by GCC countries to protect their security, stability, and the well-being of their peoples, expressing appreciation for the Gulf efforts aimed at supporting de-escalation and enhancing security and stability in the region. Abdelatty expressed pride in the fraternal relations between Egypt and the GCC countries, noting the notable breakthrough in institutional ties between the two sides since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultation in February 2022 and the adoption of the Joint Action Plan between Egypt and the GCC for the period 2024–2028 during the ministerial meeting held in Makkah Al-Mukarramah in March 2025. The statement said that Al-Budaiwi, for his part, praised Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting security and stability in the region, as well as its continuous efforts to reduce escalation, resolve crises, and enhance joint Arab action. Al-Budaiwi emphasized in the statement the Council’s commitment to continuing the development of its relations with Egypt and strengthening consultation and coordination with it on various issues of mutual concern.
