Demolition teams, casual laborers, and stray dogs
We extend special greetings to the demolition teams of the Kuwait Municipality across all governorates, in implementation of the law on encroachments on state property. We observe that demolitions are taking place only in one active governorate, with filming and publication. What about the other governorates? They remain as they were during the late [official’s] era. Some citizens have removed encroachments of all kinds, while others continue to resist demolition, believing that this is merely a summer bubble that will pass and things will return to their previous state. However, the current reality suggests a lack of seriousness in enforcing the decision. There are still trees and remnants of green fencing in huge quantities in residential areas and streets. Some citizens have not carried out the required removals, and the Municipality has not issued violations against them for ignoring the decision. May God reward the Municipality with all good. It makes promises and threats, but all of this is empty talk. Where are the Municipality’s bulldozers and equipment? On the contrary, garbage accumulation in neighborhoods and streets has increased more than before. The Municipality’s excuse is that there are no available containers, vehicles, or equipment, as all such resources are used by companies contracted with the Municipality. We will have another round with the Municipality.
We also remain concerned about casual laborers in the country, who are found at branches of charitable associations and are exploiting school parking lots and shelters during the summer vacation. There are large gatherings of the Asian community, especially after Maghrib prayers, in these parking areas, raising suspicions about them. We call on the security directorates of the governorates to monitor this casual labor and hold accountable those who brought them into the country, whether individuals or companies.
As for the stray dogs, may God protect you, they roam freely on roads, in residential areas, at gas stations along major highways, and around commercial malls, particularly near restaurants and mosques. This poses a serious danger and could lead to unforeseen tragedies for children and visitors. We notice that many of these dogs appear to be suffering from mange and other visible animal diseases. We urge the relevant authorities to address the issue and eliminate these dogs to ensure the safety of citizens and children, who have been terrified by the presence of these dogs among homes and in the internal streets of residential areas. If there is fear of international animal welfare organizations intervening, let them come and take the dogs away and handle them appropriately. However, if there are contractors here who are failing to fulfill their duties, this cannot be ignored. Nor should we wait for one of the children to be harmed, God forbid, or for infectious diseases to spread due to these animals. A firm and decisive decision must be taken so that beloved Kuwait is cleaned up and returns to being the jewel of the Gulf. We will meet again, God willing.
