In Mourning Abu Al-Shaim and the Resolute: The Late General Omar

He departed, the one who smiled with patience, guided with wisdom, and united minds and hearts with love. My uncle, Omar, has passed away and joined his Lord after a long journey filled with dignity and generosity; he spent over thirty years in his steadfast chair, which was never a restraint on his spirit, but rather a platform from which he viewed the world with the eye of a sage, sound judgment, and a generous heart. May God have mercy on him. He was a man who transcended the limitations of physical disability through the breadth of his giving. His difficult circumstances did not prevent him from being a refuge for those around him; he fulfilled people’s needs through his persistence and efforts, and instilled tranquility in souls with his ever-present smile and radiant face, which never knew the path to resentment. The wheelchair was never an obstacle between him and noble pursuits; instead, he honored his guests with a dignity that would make even the able-bodied feel shy. He refused, driven by his abundant generosity and noble character, for anyone to use his disability as an excuse to dampen his resolve, making his guests feel that true strength lies in the spirit and the heart, and that his home was open with love and welcome above all else, ensuring his generosity remained present, unbounded by any constraint and undeterred by adversity. He was formidable in standing for truth, resolute in facing trials, humble in his generosity, and elevated by his acumen and wisdom, becoming a beloved advisor, a compassionate brother, and a towering figure pointed to with admiration. The accident did not prevent him from making an impact; rather, he turned his hardship into a gift and his pain into inspiration for everyone who knew him. He left us in body, but settled in our hearts as an enduring legacy that time cannot erase, and a good memory that exudes fragrance in every gathering. We ask Allah, the Almighty, to reward him for every moment of patience with exaltation in Paradise, to make what befell him an expiation and an elevation of his ranks, and to join him with the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous—what excellent companions they are. “Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return.”
