Argentine star Lionel Messi became the all-time top scorer in the Leagues Cup on Tuesday, the annual tournament that brings together clubs from the American and Mexican leagues, after leading Inter Miami to a 4-2 victory over Atletico San Luis at home in the opening round of the group stage of the 2026 edition. Messi, who helped Miami secure the 2023 title during his first weeks with the club, increased his tally in the competition to 14 goals, surpassing Los Angeles FC winger Denis Bouanga by one goal. David Rodriguez opened the scoring for the Mexican side in the fourth minute, before Messi equalized seven minutes later. Brazilian defender Mikaell made it 4-1 in the final seconds of the first half.
