Al-Hawila: Improving Kuwait's ranking in the World Bank Index

Dr. Amthal Al-Huwail, Minister of Social Affairs, Labor, and Social Security and Chair of the Women’s Affairs Committee, opened a workshop on the World Bank’s Women, Business and the Law index, emphasizing the importance of integrating efforts among government entities and expediting the required procedures to improve Kuwait’s ranking in the index ahead of the evaluation scheduled for October next year.

Speaking at the workshop, which was attended by members of the Women’s Affairs Committee and representatives of relevant government bodies, Al-Huwail stated that the committee continues to coordinate with various entities to study the index’s requirements and determine work priorities, thereby facilitating the completion of possible amendments and procedures in the coming phase. This effort aligns with national initiatives aimed at enhancing Kuwait’s standing in international indices.

She added that the significance of the index extends beyond the World Bank’s classification, as it is also linked to several international commitments and indicators, including the Beijing Platform for Action, the Gender Gap Index, and the Sustainable Development Goals. Consequently, improving its results serves as an indicator of the progress Kuwait is making in the field of women’s empowerment.

Al-Huwail explained that a comprehensive inventory of the required amendments for each entity, according to its jurisdiction, has been prepared. She noted that the current priority will be to finalize decisions, regulations, and procedural measures that can be adopted swiftly, while simultaneously completing legislative amendments that require longer timeframes.

She stressed the importance of teamwork and enhanced cooperation among government entities, affirming that the swift implementation of required procedures within each entity’s purview is a key factor in improving Kuwait’s ranking and strengthening its presence in relevant international indices and reports.
