At $927 million: Historic opening for 'Spider-Man'

“Spider-Man: No Way Home” achieved an exceptional box office launch during its first weekend, recording the second-largest opening in North American history. Ticket sales reached $355 million, according to Sony’s estimates released yesterday, narrowly trailing “Avengers: Endgame,” which opened with $357 million in 2019. Globally, the film grossed $572 million across more than 73,500 screens, led by China with revenues of $121 million. Its worldwide total rose to $927 million in its opening days, placing it second among the largest global openings after “Endgame,” which grossed $1.2 billion.

Tom Holland continues to strengthen his presence as the iconic hero. His third film, “No Way Home,” surpassed $1.9 billion worldwide, ranking eighth among the highest-grossing films in cinema history, excluding inflation adjustments. It also became the first film to exceed $1 billion since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

Holland’s presence extends beyond “Spider-Man,” as he also stars in “The Odyssey” alongside Zendaya, a film directed by Christopher Nolan.

In its third weekend, the film slipped to second place with $51 million in earnings. The combined success of the two films helped North American cinemas achieve the highest weekend gross in their history, totaling approximately $430 million.
