Trump: $13 billion in revenue from Venezuelan oil sales

US President Donald Trump revealed that the United States has collected more than $13 billion from Venezuelan oil sales since the ouster of former President Nicolas Maduro at the beginning of the year. Trump added that these revenues helped fund US operational costs, asserting that Washington had recouped the cost of that war many times over through oil revenues. According to the US administration, approximately 150 million barrels of Venezuelan oil have been sold since January, with the revenues subject to continuous auditing by KPMG and deposited into accounts overseen by the US Department of the Treasury. Estimates indicate that the value of the sold oil reached about $13 billion, yet the amounts announced as transferred do not exceed $300 million, raising widespread questions about the fate of the bulk of the revenues. These questions arise as Venezuela faces severe economic pressures, alongside massive financial needs for reconstruction following recent disasters, whose losses are estimated at around $37 billion.
