Establishing "Midwifery" under "Paramedical Services"

Minister of Health Dr. Abdulwahab Al-Awadi issued a decision to establish the title of “midwifery” among the auxiliary professions to medicine, in a move aimed at keeping pace with the development of maternal and child health services and enhancing the quality of healthcare in Kuwait.

In a press statement, the Ministry of Health said that introducing this title underscores the pivotal role of midwifery in ensuring safe deliveries and positive experiences for mothers and families, supporting qualified personnel, and promoting evidence-based professional practices, thereby contributing to the safety of mothers and newborns and the overall quality of healthcare.

The ministry added that the decision aligns with the expansion of women’s, maternity, and child health services, coinciding with the opening and operation of modern health projects, foremost among them the new maternity hospital in the Al-Sabah Specialized Medical Area, alongside the expansion of maternal and child health services at Adan, Farwaniya, and Jahra hospitals, in line with best global practices and standards.

The ministry clarified that the decision is based on the provisions of Law No. 70 of 2020 concerning the practice of medicine and its auxiliary professions, patients’ rights, and health facilities, which authorized the Minister of Health, under Article 3, to add auxiliary professions to medicine in response to the evolution of health services and the needs of the healthcare system.

On another front, the Ministry of Health launched a new digital service to send reminders for upcoming vaccinations via the government’s unified “Sahel” electronic services application and the “Salam” application, operated by the Ministry of Health. This initiative is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to develop digital health services, strengthen public health, and enhance the quality of preventive care.

The ministry noted in a press statement that the service sends a reminder notification 48 hours before the scheduled vaccination date, as well as alerts users to any changes in the vaccination appointment. It added that the service aims to support adherence to vaccination schedules and dosage timings for children and adults, thereby contributing to disease prevention and safeguarding the health of individuals and the community.

The ministry emphasized that the service enhances the user experience by ensuring privacy, saving time and effort, and leveraging digital solutions to deliver healthcare services.
