Saudi Arabia Foils Terrorist Attack Using “Iraqi Drones”
Sheikh Jaraah Al-Jaber, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a telephone conversation yesterday with His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. During the call, the parties condemned and denounced the attacks carried out against the Kingdom by drones launched by Iran-backed militias in Iraq. Sheikh Jaraah Al-Jaber affirmed Kuwait’s absolute solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its support for all measures taken to safeguard its security and sovereignty.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had previously expressed Kuwait’s strongest condemnation and denunciation of the attacks that attempted to target petroleum facilities in the Eastern Province and Riyadh in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, using drones launched by Iran-backed militias in Iraq. These acts constituted a blatant violation of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as a breach of international law, the UN Charter, and Security Council Resolution 2817. The Ministry reiterated Kuwait’s full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its support for all measures taken to protect its security and sovereignty, emphasizing that the security of the Kingdom is an integral part of the security of Kuwait and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states.
Saudi Arabia had announced yesterday that it intercepted and destroyed several drones originating from Iraq, which were attempting to target petroleum facilities in both the Eastern Province and Riyadh. Brigadier General Turki Al-Maliki, the official spokesperson for the Saudi Ministry of Defense, stated that these terrorist attempts originated from Iraqi territory and were carried out by Iran-backed terrorist militias. He affirmed that these attacks pose a direct threat to Saudi national security and the global economy, given the reliance on Saudi oil supplies. The spokesperson stressed that the Kingdom reserves its inherent right to defend itself and its national assets, and that it will respond at the appropriate time and place to any aggression against its security and stability, sending a clear message that Riyadh will not tolerate any attempts to target its vital facilities. He called on the international community to assume its responsibilities in confronting these terrorist attacks that threaten regional and international security, affirming that the Kingdom will continue to take all necessary measures to protect its territory and national achievements.
For its part, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom’s strongest condemnation of the attacks, denouncing the drone strikes launched by Iran-backed militias in Iraq. The Ministry affirmed the Kingdom’s resolve to safeguard its security and sovereignty, deter aggressors, and exercise its right to respond to the sources of aggression, emphasizing the necessity for the Iraqi government to take all required measures to prevent the use of its territory as a launching pad for aggression.
