Kuwait prepares to discuss its report before the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented by the Human Rights Department, held a coordination meeting to discuss Kuwait’s combined report for the 25th and 26th periodic reviews before the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD), with participation from representatives of relevant government entities. During the meeting, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Human Rights, Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Al-Duwaikh, affirmed that since ratifying the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination in 1968, Kuwait has continued its firm approach based on cooperation with United Nations human rights mechanisms and open dialogue with treaty bodies. She added that Kuwait is keen to implement these commitments, further motivated by its current membership on the Human Rights Council (2024–2026). She explained that the meeting is part of a series of ongoing preparations undertaken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs within an institutional framework, through its chairmanship of the Standing National Committee for Preparing Reports and Monitoring Recommendations related to human rights, and with participation from representatives of government entities that are members of the official delegation scheduled to take part in the discussions on August 10 and 11 at the United Nations Office in Geneva. She noted that the meeting aims to enhance the technical and diplomatic readiness of official delegation members and strengthen their capacity to interact optimally with the Committee’s experts, thereby reflecting the reality of national efforts, recent legislative and institutional developments in Kuwait, and their alignment with the content of the National Development Vision (Kuwait 2035) and the Sustainable Development Goals 2030.
